Why Friends of Fort Trumbull State Park

The State of Connecticut has invested $25 million in your newest state park.  The bricks and mortar are in place and the grounds are arguably the most beautiful in our lovely state.  Now the Friends of Fort Trumbull State Park must carefully provide the park with the nurturing support that can only come from a group of volunteers that is committed to the long term success of our bounty.

Activities*:

·         Speakers on historical subjects of regional importance at our monthly meetings

·         Local archeological subjects

·         Benefit Concerts in the Fort

*Please consult the activities calendar at the Fort Trumbull State Park Gift Shop and the Coming Events page on our web site.

Become a Friend of Fort Trumbull State Park

Become part of the phenomenal transformation that has taken place at Fort Trumbull.  The State of Connecticut has invested $25 Million, to create a wonderful tribute in recognition of the tremendous historical value to our country that has accrued since 1778, on the west bank of the Thames River.

However, as Friends of Fort Trumbull State Park, we must take advantage of this momentous starting point.  The Friends intend to assist in the preservation, protection and interpretation of this historically important site.

Functions of the organization:

·        Serve as an advocate for the park

·        Increase public awareness

·        Plan and solicit activities/events

·        Maintain the Fort Trumbull Archives

·        Leave a legacy of the enormous role that was played here in our nation’s defense

·        Operate the Gift Shop

·        Raise funds that will be used to further enhance the Fort Trumbull  experience

How will your membership fee be used?  Doesn’t the State take care of the park?

Your membership fees will be used to create a spirit of community within one of the finest State Parks in Connecticut.  For example, Friends will organize activities and sponsor speakers on historical subjects of regional importance.

The State Department of Environmental Protection maintains, provides tours, and does the general work of administering the park.  The State does not operate the Gift Shop, maintain the extensive archives or provide those extra ingredients that enrich the Fort Trumbull State Park experience.
